Test Questions

  • The written exam consists of 40-45 multiple choice questions.  Passing grade is 75% for the written exam.
  • The practical exams are interactive tests that describe various scenarios and ask you to conduct “testing” at a site.
  • Practical exam is pass/fail.  Student must demonstrate that they can test both galvanic and ICCS and interpret the results.
  • All answers can be found in STI posted reference materials.
  • All testing MUST be done in accordance with STI recommended practices.
  • Answers to exam should be per federal regulations, not individual state requirements.
  • The exam is open book.  Students are on their honor to complete the exam on their own, without help of any other person(s).

  • Students will have 60 days from the first day they sign in on line to complete the exam
  • Once the exam is started, students will have 24 hours to complete it.
  • A clock with time remaining to take the exam will appear on every page of the exam.
  • STI certified cp testers may go into their portal on the STI website at any time to reprint their certificate, update their personal information and download reference materials.

Certification

  • STI Cathodic Protection Certification is valid for three years.
  • At the end of this period, the tester must again demonstrate that they are knowledgeable in current testing methods and criteria.
  • STI reserves the right to withdraw anyone’s certification at any time if it is determined that their conduct is unethical, (as related to cp testing).

Failed Tests

  • Individuals that fail the exam must attend an actual class, and pass that exam, in order to maintain their certifications.
  • No refunds will be issued for any reason.
