 Event: STI SP001 Adjunct Certification for API 653 Inspectors

 

Now in its fourth edition, the SP001 standard – Standard for Inspection of Aboveground Tanks – applies to portable containers, shop-built ASTs and field-erected ASTs up to 30 feet diameter and 50 feet in height. According to SP001, API 653 certified inspectors must obtain an “STI SP001 Adjunct Certification” to perform an SP001 inspection. This is to ensure that an API 653 certified inspector is familiar with construction of tanks and containers included in SP001 as well as the requirements of a tank-system inspection.

Here is how to obtain access to the online program:

1.     Complete this application form and the eye exam form and send both to STI. 

  • Certification of passing an eye exam (visual acuity exam) must be sent to STI prior to the issuance of STI SP001 API 653 Adjunct certificates. The eye exam must be administered by an optometrist, medical doctor, registered nurse or certified physicians assistant and be no more than 12 months old. An example form is attached, but other formats are acceptable
 2.  The cost of this program is $200. You will be able to use your credit card to pay for this fee through the website.

3.     Obtain these documents. You will need to study these materials before performing the online program. The program highlights important points, but the test questions will be derived from the entire document. (co-workers may share study materials, but must complete the online certification individually)

 
  1. After receiving your registration,
  • STI will e-mail to you a web link of the test and a User Name and Password.
  • Using these, you will be able to pay for the use of the program by credit card and then begin the program immediately.
  • After this payment, you will then have 48 hours to complete the program (after 48 hours, the program will no longer be accessible by you).
 
  1. The program consists of 11 modules with a PowerPoint presentation followed by 4 quiz questions. After answering at least 3 of these quiz questions correctly, you will be able to continue to the next module. The modules must be taken in the order that they appear.
 
  1. The final test consists of 30 questions and you must achieve a score of 80% to pass and obtain the certification.
