Ethanol Test Results Created by lgrainawi on 11/22/2010 1:04:52 PM Test results stating corrosion rates of steel with fuel grade ethanol and gasoline.
DNV (Det Norske Veritas) is an independent foundation with the purpose of safeguarding life, property, and the environment. Since 1954 DNV has had a dedicated research department that has enhanced and developed services, rules and industry standards in multiple fields.
The DNV Lab has tested fuel grade ethanol (FGE) with the following results:
95% FGE, Nitrogen purge RESULTS: 0.008 to 0.02mm/yr
95% FGE, Air purge RESULTS: below detectable limits
70% gasoline, 30% FGE, Nitrogen purge RESULTS: below detectable limits
90% gasoline, 10% FGE, Nitrogen purge RESULTS: 0.0025mm/yr
70% gasoline, 30% FGE, Air purge RESULTS: below detectable limits
90% gasoline, 10% FGE, Air purge RESULTS: below detectable limits
Steel coupons were either completely immersed or partially immersed with the rest of the sample in the vapor phase. Exposure time was 2 months at ambient temperature.
